Description
Hookstick is a disco funk band based in the Midlands. But Hookstick are not about golden oldies - they have a whole new set of tracks for a new generation of party-goers and music freaks. Fans will love the fact that Hookstick do sometimes weave in our own version of older numbers, but all their own tracks are totally fresh and instantly memorable. Either playing alongside a traditional retro DJ set or alone, this music is geared to get people dancing and create a fun and powerful vibe for all sorts of events.
Total individuals musically, the band has gelled together as a brilliant force to be reckoned with, dynamite, direct, sassy and quirky, their original sound comes across in sometimes complex but always catchy tracks that truly form a bridge between disco, funk, soul and very accessible pop sounds.
None of our musicians started in the world of funk or disco, which adds to the fun of our sets. A perfectly obvious funk track may suddenly veer into a rock solo for a brief and surprising moment, with all musicians fantastically versatile. With uniquely powerful and passionate vocals from singer Kes C, riveting funky grooves and splashes of brilliance from world class guitarist Tom Stedman, virtuoso punchy basslines from Rachael Townend, warm and tasty backup vocals and meticulous drumming by Jonny Welburn and suppport on keyboards / piano by Lane and Lane, the band is currently preparing for a tour in 2017. The album "Refugee" is also due for release at the same time.
Hookstick Tracks are inspired by the funk and soul revolution that followed the Depression in the seventies and our music are all about self-empowerment and Disco ideology.
Hookstick is focused on a warm all-encompassing feelgood style with both a deeply romantic and theatrical strand and strong elements of social realism. Heavily influenced by founding disco, soul and funk artists and writers such as Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire, Aretha Franklin, Rod Temperton of Heatwave and Nile Rodgers, as well as newer comers like Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Hookstick Music reflects elements of pop with the upbeat styles of soul , funk, and ultimately disco in its ability to promote good feeling in the real world.
Hope you enjoy our stuff, look out for our releases Spring 2017.
